Beginning Scrapbooking

Scrapbooking is an old term which today finds its application in a form of craft which involves creatively adhering photos and other memorabilia to pages in an album. It is however important that the pictures are well accompanied by information about the pictures known as journaling.

For all those who already have an idea about scrapbooking but are unsure of how to go about it, the very basic step is to organize your photos, as the more the photos the bigger is the job.

Step1: Collect all the photos that you can get your hands on and bring them to a sufficiently large work space. This ensures that you can conveniently sort through your pile for just the right photos.

Step2: Now start sorting the photos according to your requirements like, by year, by age or by months and so on. This makes your work a bit easy. Collect these photos into their respective piles.

Step3: Once you are finished with the sorting work, index your pile of photos in order to decide which of them will go first into your scrapbook.

Apart from following the above few steps there are a few other things that you need to arrange to have the perfect scrapbook. Here is a list to help you out:

1. Albums: You need to decide which album suits your needs perfectly.

2. Paper: It is always advisable to buy acid-free paper for your scrapbooks. The size of paper may vary depending upon the size of the album.

3. Scissors: Having a good pair of sharp scissors is a must because you don’t want your photos to be messed up because of blunt scissors.

4. Photo safe glues and adhesives: This is the most important thing since you need to stick your photos well so that they do not come out in time.

5. Pen: An acid-free, archival quality pen for journaling is a prime necessity.

6. Sheet protectors: These are necessary if you are preparing your own pages to be inserted into a binder. They must be acid-free and preferably top loading.

Though a well decorated scrapbook looks quite expensive and attractive, it is always advisable for the beginners to keep their scrapbooks as simple as possible. This way they look uncluttered and more appealing.
