Beginning Origami

Origami is basically the name given to the Japanese art of paper folding. It is an amazing paper craft that can teach you to make all kinds of paper decorations from wall hangings to small gifts to hangings for your mobiles and so on. Learning origami requires a lot of your valued time and patience however it is one of the least expensive activities since its major supply includes only origami papers of different styles. There are a few prerequisites of origami that you need to consider before you actually start with your activity.
  • While planning to buy an origami paper, you may either choose one with colorful printed designs or go in for one of the solid colored papers.
  • If you are precise enough with your measurements, then only cut your own squares otherwise, just fold one corner of a paper over to the other edge and cut off along the resulting square edge.
  • While choosing the origami paper, try to look for those which have dissimilar front and back patterns. This helps you to avoid confusion.
  • It is recommended for the beginner to start with easier items such as a bird or a cup, etc.
The most important requirement while trying to learn origami is that you are accustomed to accepting your mistakes and you don’t get frustrated. Only then can you overcome your mistakes. Also it is advisable for the beginners to start off under skilled supervision.

For all those people who choose to learn origami through the visual media like the internet or through origami books, there are a few useful tips to help them understand the symbols used quite often. These include:

1. Always hold your paper exactly the way it is shown in the picture.

2. Always look for the dashed line to locate where the next fold happens.

3. The arrows tell you what the next movement is going to be.

4. An arrow head at both ends means fold and then unfold.

If you are sincere in following these few important tips while trying to learn the craft of origami you are sure to come up with a beautiful piece of craft.
